James “Jimmy” “Jimbo” Wasson, age 90, of Bismarck, Arkansas died Sunday June 9th 2024 surrounded by his family. He was born on October 8th 1933 to George and Eunice Wasson. Jimmy was a man of many talents and interests. During his lifetime he was a basketball coach at Springhill High, and an assistant superintendent at Yokem Elementary. He taught history, civics and, government at Lakeside High School and was assistant principal. Additionally, he was a ranger for the Corps of Engineers at DeGray Lake, a bus driver, a logger, a carpenter, a mason, a welder, and a cotton picker.
He served in the army reserves achieving the rank of lieutenant colonel before retiring. In college, he played basketball for the Henderson Reddies. He was an avid quail hunter and a crack shot. Later in life he enjoyed golf and was the director of the DeGray Senior’s Golf Tournament which he ran for over 20 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife Sandra Coley Wasson and his three sisters Barbara, Kitty, and Earlee. He is survived by his brother Virles (Fonda) Wasson; his two sons David (Juli) Wasson and Craig (Angie) Wasson; his grandchildren Amber (Glenn) Hudson, April (Paolo) Lim, Holly (Bryan) Baker, Dashell Wasson, and Beckett Wasson; five great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; his special friend Susie Martin and his beloved dog Speck.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 14, 2024 at the First United Methodist Church of Arkadelphia with Rev. Zeke Allen officiating.
