James "Jimmy" Walter "Diamond Jim" Rowland

James “Jimmy” Walter “Diamond Jim” Rowland, age 73, of Glenwood, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

He was born on June 20, 1949, in Pike City, the son of James Thaddeus Rowland and Ruby Florean Youngblood Rowland. On December 20, 1974, Jimmy was married to the true love of his life, Sharon Anne Thornton Rowland, who preceded him in death on January 31, 2016.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kenneth Rowland; his daughter, Michelle Kellar; his son-in-law, Ricky Kellar; his sister, Margaret Holley; and his brother, Duane Rowland.

Jimmy was a member of the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Glenwood and a United States Army veteran.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, mountain hopping, and spending time outdoors.  Above all, Jimmy loved his family with all his heart and was the best Pa-Paw in the world to his grandchildren.  He always looked forward to and loved taking his granddaughter, Kinsley, on their dinner dates, just the two of them.  Jimmy will truly be missed by all who had the joy of knowing and loving him.  We hold strong to our faith that this is not our final good-bye, only “we all love you, and we will see you again someday soon”.

Jimmy is survived by his children and their spouses, Michelle and Scotty Linville of Caddo Gap, Jennifer Wright and Bryan and Kathy Rowland, all of Glenwood; his grandchildren, Tosha, Haley, Tanner, Kinsley, Mia, Richard and Robert; his great-grandchildren, Chloe, Rayleigh, River and Raynie; five sisters, Helen Finney, Martha Jones, Sherrie Milholen and her husband, Hershel, Joy Welch and Linda Saffell; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 5, 2023, in the Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Glenwood with Bro. Keith Shewbart, Bro. Kenny Williams and Steve Finney officiating.

Visitation will be held Thursday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the church.

Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shawn Rowland, Steve Finney, David Holley, Wendell Burrow, Timmy Watson and Robbie Hemund.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Robert T. Muldoon, Dr. Albert J. Chinn, Bridgett Brantley, the nurses and staff of National Park Medical Center, his church family, the McDonald’s Coffee Drinkers, and his special friends, Johnny Mitchell, Kenny McGrew and Jimmy Buck.
