James "Jim" Looney

James "Jim" Looney, a beloved member of our community, peacefully passed away on April 22, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on August 2, 1940, in Trumann, Arkansas, Jim was a dedicated man who lived his life with passion and purpose.

Jim was a proud owner of Looney's Tire Stores, which he opened in 1974. His dedication to his craft and his pride in selling tires contributed to the success of his business, which has remarkably served the community for 50 years. Beyond being just a store owner, he was a hard worker who loved to get his hands dirty and inspire loyalty among his employees through kindness and respect. His passion for tires was only surpassed by his love for his family and his devotion to the Lord.

A proud patriot, Jim served in the United States Army right out of high school, embracing military service with the same sense of duty that defined his life. In a gesture of appreciation, the ladies of his church later honored him with a Quilt of Valor, a treasured gift he kept close to his heart.

He was a 23-year member and deacon of North Bryant Baptist Church, where he contributed to his community and upheld his faith. His commitment to the church and its congregation was evident and reflected the values he held dear.

Jim held fond memories of his younger years spent outdoors with family, especially on their deer and duck hunting trips. Though not often spoken of in detail, these times together left a lasting impression, and stories from those hunts have been fondly shared by family members over the years. They speak to the quiet bonds of brotherhood and the simple joys that meant the most to him.

Those who knew Jim also knew about his love for TaMolly’s Mexican restaurant. It wasn’t just about the food—it was a place he enjoyed sharing with friends and family, and he never turned down a chance to visit. For Jim, a good meal at TaMolly’s was as much about connection and comfort as it was about the enchiladas.

Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Billie Jean Looney; his brothers Billy (Rosa Lee - who has passed on) Looney, Jackie (Wanda) Looney, Jearl (Martha) Looney, and Jon (Kathy) Looney; his sister, Cauline (Chuck) Knight; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and many close family and friends who will miss him dearly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Washington and Vera Lorraine Looney.

A visitation to honor Jim’s life will be held at North Bryant Baptist Church from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will immediately follow at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Jim's name can be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

The family would like to extend a special and heartfelt thank you to the Saline County Home Health Care nurses and staff, as well as the staff of the Palliative Community Resources team, for taking such amazing and loving care of Jim.

Jim's legacy as a loving husband, a hardworking entrepreneur, and a dedicated servant in his church will continue to resonate in the hearts of all who knew him. He leaves behind a community enriched by his kindness, his integrity, and his unwavering commitment to family and faith. His presence will be profoundly missed.
