James “Jim” Thomas Davis passed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on October 31, 2024. Jim was born on February 22, 1932 in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Thomas R. Davis and Elizabeth Davis. Jim was married to Ruth Ann Whitehead on June 29, 1957. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Davis and his two sons Stephen J. Davis, wife Connie and Gregory T. Davis, wife Jennifer as well as his grandchildren Elizabeth Harrelson, husband Michael; Stephanie Cunningham, husband Shu; Michael Davis, Wife Vanessa; Sarah Harris, husband Justin; Hannah Olson, husband Jordan, in addition, several great grandchildren. Jim is preceded in death by his daughter Laura Berry and grandson Joshua Berry as well as his parents Thomas and Elizabeth, and sister Belle and brother Robert.
Jim graduated from Little Rock Catholic High School and went on to study at the American Institute of banking. Jim’s first job in the banking industry was with Union Bank of Little Rock. Jim went on to use his knowledge of finances and banking when working as Comptroller for the Catholic Dioceses of Little Rock and as founding Executive Director of Christopher Homes, a non-profit providing housing for the elderly.
Jim participated in many volunteer activities including the Catholic High Alumni Association Board. He was a member of the Serra Club which serves to foster vocations to religious life. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus. As well as, served as a board member for Good Shepherd Ecumenical Retirement center for many years.
Jim was a dedicated Catholic attending mass regularly and was a Eucharistic Minister as well as being in the church choir for decades. Jim’s dedicated and caring nature allowed him to serve the Lord in many ways. He and his family were among the founding families of Christ the King Catholic Church in the 1960’s and he remained a member of that parish until his passing. Jim believed in the good in all people, through trials and tribulations his faith never wavered.
Jim had many lifelong friends among them the 4 couples in “bridge club” whose friendship which began in the 1950’s and was sustained over convivial bridge, dinner and cocktail parties for 50 years. Jim also assisted elderly friends in their later years ensuring their finances were in good order, checking on them regularly to ensure their needs were met.
Jim had a beautiful singing voice and shared his love of music with his family regularly playing show tunes, classical, and religious music on his stereo causing his children and grandchildren to grow up with a love of these things. He sang Ave Maria at the wedding of each of his children—a proud and loving memory for his family. Many do not know that Jim went to Los Angeles in his early twenties and made two demo records before coming back to Little Rock and marrying the love of his life, Ruth. His family and friends will deeply miss his warm and loving soul.
Rosary and visitation will be Thursday November 7th at 6:30 pm, located at Christ the King Catholic Church, in Little Rock.
Funeral Mass will be Friday November 8th at Christ the King Catholic Church, Time is TBD
