James Robert (Jim Bob or Bob) Jarrell, 89, of Mabelvale, Arkansas, died on February 2, 2011, at the Saline Memorial Hospice, surrounded by family and friends. He was born October 7, 1921, in Ft. Worth, Texas, son of the late Rufus Martin and Mattie Delila Jarrell.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Willa Eloise (Wolverton) Jarrell, son, Robert Kim Jarrell and wife Shannon of San Antonio, Texas, daughter Starla (Jarrell) Goad and husband, Phillip, of Little Rock, Arkansas, seven grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Martin Ernest Jarrell.
He graduated Valedictorian at Abilene Christian University, Abilene, Texas, as well as at Riverside High School in Ft. Worth, Texas. He served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from 1942 - 1946. He fought in three major battles, including the Battle of the Bulge in WWII. Mr. Jarrell served as Minister of the Gospel in the Church of Christ for 50 years. He was an author and editor of many Christian publications. He dearly loved preaching, singing, reading, writing, history, politics, counseling and helping those in need. He left a legacy of love and will be dearly missed.
Visitation/Viewing is Sunday, Feb. 6 from 2:00-4:00PM, Huson Funeral Home, 6400 Mabelvale Pike, Little Rock, AR 72209.
Funeral Service is Monday, Feb. 7 at 10:00 AM at Huson Funeral Home, with interment at Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery, in North Little Rock, Arkansas.
