James Howard “Jim” Moore, age 87, passed away February 6, 2025, with family at his side. Jim was born, March 17, 1937 in Redfield AR, to Doyne and Janeda Moore. Doyne was killed in an explosion at the Pine Bluff arsenal when Jim was 6 years old.
Jim graduated from White Hall High School in May 1955 and was captain of their basketball team. Jim married Joyce Arlene Duncan on June 30, 1956. Shortly after marriage, he went into the U.S. Army.
After completing his military service, Jim started a lengthy career in electrical supply sales. Jim was a champion for youth. He served in various capacities as member of the Lake Hamilton School District board member, as coach of numerous sports teams through the Lake Hamilton Optimist Club, and as teacher of Sunday School classes at Center Fork Missionary Baptist Church. Some of his greatest stories came from his involvement in the church’s Tuesday Morning Men’s Breakfast Group.
After retirement, he became a Garland County Master Gardener, working extensively on their various projects and giving Docent tours through Garvan Woodland Gardens.
Jim is preceded in death by his infant son, James Michael Moore; father, Doyne Moore; mother and step-father, T.J. & Janeda Aaron; grandmother and grandfather, Walter and Mary Shipp; sister, Mary Carlson; and aunt, Era Faye Halstead.
He is survived by Joyce Moore, wife of 68 years; daughter, Stephanie Moore Williams of Hot Springs; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Jennifer Moore of Springdale; granddaughters, Lauren McMillan of Chicago, Illinois, Caroline Paul and husband Christian of Memphis, Tenn., and JennyKate Freeman and Husband, Eric of Springdale; great grandchildren, James Henry Freeman and Ellison Freeman; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends he considered family.
Visitation will be held at Smith Family Funeral Home on Sunday, February 9, 2025, from 4 pm until 6 pm. Funeral services will be Monday, February 10, 9:30am, at Center Fork Baptist Church.
Burial will be in Orion Cemetery, we’ll meet there at 12:00 pm Noon.
Pallbearers will be: Todd Rucker, Kenny Caraway, Tom Ledbetter, Chris Qualls, Shawn King, James Moore Jr., Jonathan Crane, and Jimmy Oliver. Honorary pallbearers are: The Tuesday Morning Men’s Breakfast Fellowship, Garland County Master Gardeners and Billy Williams.
The family would like to thank Arkansas Hospice for their excellent care of Jim during his time in hospice care.
