James Ira Freeland, Jr. age 88, died on October 20, 2018, at his home in Caney, Arkansas. Junior, as he was known by friends and family, was a member of Midway Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Fairy Freeland, of Caney; two sisters, Bobbie Hopper, of Mt. Vernon, Texas, and Doris Ingram, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas.
Junior is survived by his wife of 63 years, Elease Freeland; two daughters, Carla (Keith) Tugwell of Midway and Jan (Lee) Matthews of Brown Springs; four grand-children, Jenny (Jeremy) Stafford, Dusty (Andrea) Tugwell, Jill (Cory) Hurst, and B.J. Matthews; seven great-grandchildren, Skylar, Josie and Sloan Stafford; Jackson and Leighton Tugwell; and Emily and Allison Hurst; his brother, Sammy (Ann) Freeland of Clarksville, and his sister, Jean Dicks, of Ft. Smith; one brother in law, Carroll Smith of Arkadelphia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Dusty Tugwell, B.J. Matthews, Skylar Stafford, Jackson Tugwell, Jeremy Stafford, and Cory Hurst, and dear friends, Alan Cook and Randy Parish.
The family will hold a visitation at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia on Monday, October 22 from 6:00 -8:00 pm. Funeral service, officiated by Bro. Fred Etheridge, will be Tuesday, October 23 at 10:00 am at Midway Missionary Baptist Church, 1239 Midway Road. Burial will follow at Caney Cemetery.
