James A. Crews age 68 of Gurdon died Friday, August 7, 2009 peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born December 1, 1940 in Gurdon the son of the late Johnny Crews and Claira Mae Taylor. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Johnnie Mae Miller and Marie Lingo and one brother, Bobby Crews. James was a veteran of the U. S, Navy, in 1968 he ran for Clark County Sheriff and collector and worked in the scrap iron business for thirty-five years.
He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, Mary Maxine Crews; four brothers, Gary Crews and wife, Pat; Tommy Crews both of Gurdon; Clarence Crews and wife, Shirlene of Oklahoma; Glen Taylor of Little Rock; one sister, Virginia Brooks of North Little Rock; four step-children, Boyd King of Curtis; Julie Ledbetter of Bauxite; Marilyn King Parker and Linda Hughson both of Benton; five step-grandchildren; six step great-grandchildren and a host of very special nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, August 10, 2009 at Rose Hedge Cemetery in Gurdon. Visitation will be 2-4 PM Sunday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
