James Carl Williams, a proud Vietnam veteran passed away at home on October 31, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Born on June 17, 1947, the son of Carl Edward Williams and Dessie Mae Graves Howerton, Jim as he was known was born in Norman, Arkansas and later attended high school in Pampa, Texas before enlisting at 17 into the United States Army. The United States Army highly decorated Jim for his honorable service and multiple tours extending form August 1964 until February 1971. Thank you, Jim, for fighting so valiantly for our freedom.
After leaving his military service he served his community by becoming a postal worker from June 1971 until 1982 when he decided to then serve the federal government by becoming an IRS agent until his retirement in 1990. He had a life full of serving.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donnie Hugh Davis; and one sister, Patsy Ann Davis.
He is survived by a son, James Hamm of Hot Springs; a daughter, Paula Shafer of Tyler, Texas; four wonderful grandchildren; a special nephew, Danny Davis of Glenwood; and a host of extended family members.
Graveside services will be held 2:00PM, Monday, November 6, 2023, in the Black Springs Cemetery under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs. Honors will be presented by the United States Army Honor Guard.
