James Caple, Sr.

March 23, 1928 — September 26, 2021

James Caple, Sr.

James Pat Caple Sr. was born on March 23, 1928, in Little Rock Arkansas, and passed from this life in his home on September 26th 2021.

Pat retired from the Corps of Engineers after thirty years of service in June of 1986. He spent the last years of his career as a ranger on Bull Shoals Lake, a job he truly loved. During Pat’s time as a ranger, he owned and operated Maila Halum Dive Shop and RV park in Lakeview Arkansas. He, his children, and grandchildren were all certified scuba divers. His wife Zora was a water safety instructor. Pat and Zora lived lives of all things in and around the water. They loved their large family and the many friends they made through their year’s involvement in the community.

He cherished his wife, Zora until his last breath. He and Zora spent the first twenty years devoted to their children; keeping them involved in sports, coaching their teams, and supporting their endeavors. The many activities included softball with the girls and baseball with the boys as well as model airplanes, football, and competitive swimming.

He had a passion for working on and fixing anything mechanical or electrical, there was nothing he couldn’t fix or build. Throughout his life he taught friends, his children, and grandchildren how to make, create, and repair things. It could be something as simple as making bird houses with his daughters and grandchildren to bringing home items that could be put together to make a go carts once the boys figured out what to do with the pieces.

While he lost his life partner in 1992, he continued to be the glue that held the family together. His children knew that he would be there to help them as quickly as he knew they needed him. There was a time later in his life when his daughter Joy was a missionary in Panama that he expressed concern because he knew he couldn’t help her if she ran into problems. He loved his family and would do anything to help them.

Pat was preceded in death by his wife Zora Willyne Garrett Caple, his parents Fred Caple and Marie Wood Caple, his son James Pat Caple Jr. (Jimmy), his brother Joe Allen Caple, and his granddaughter Debra Willyne Flow.

He is survived by a brother Don Caple, sister Sue Alford, sister-in-law Shirley Garrett, daughters Libbie Von Segen, Janie Brown and Joy Nelson, his son Jeffery Caple, and his chosen son Jim Flow. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other family and friends.

He was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Graveside service will begin at 3:00 PM Wednesday, September 29, 2021 at Rest Hills Memorial Park.
