Dr. James Wansley Campbell, 95, of Little Rock, Arkansas, passed away February 22, 2025, at his Culver City home with family by his side. He was born August 16, 1929 in Williford, Arkansas, to Audrey Price and James W. Campbell. Dr. Campbell, or “Lil Shoe”, as he was known to friends due to his size 15 feet, attended the University of Arkansas and got his M.D. from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences where he also specialized in Radiology. He was a Captain in the U.S. Army, based in Bremen, Germany until he returned to Arkansas where he joined Radiology Associates, P.A. RAPA was instrumental in establishing Radiology as a separate entity from hospital-based services in Arkansas. RAPA introduced mammography to the state, as well as computerized axial tomography (CAT) and magnetic resonant imaging (MRI). An avid outdoorsman and fisherman his whole life, he was also a Master Gardener. Preceded in death by his daughter, Dr. Leah S. Campbell, and the love of his life and wife of 66 years, Lyda Martha (Crittenden) Campbell. He is survived by his son, James Marvin Campbell (Mea Combs), and grandson, Lawson Price Campbell. A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, 2:00PM at Brave New Restaurant in Little Rock. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Dr. Leah S. Campbell Scholarship Fund at Hendrix College, Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church, or The Nature Conservancy.
