Jacquelyn Mae Johannes, 68, of North Little Rock, Arkansas passed away January 29, 2024. She was born to Donald and Dorothy Slaughter on July 17, 1955, in Washington, Kansas.
After graduating from Emporia State University, with her degree in Early Childhood Education, she married Donald Johannes, had three children and traveled the world as a military spouse. She would begin her career as a substitute teacher and would later start working for Recreation Services on base while they were stationed in Greece and would finally finish her career at the Child Develop Center at the Little Rock Air Force Base. After 38 years of service, Jacque retired in 2015 to spend more time with her kids and grandkids.
Jacque was a loving, giving, sensitive soul. Her kids said plenty of times you couldn’t take her anywhere without running into previous students/parents who wanted to say hi to Ms. Jacque. Jacque was affectionately known as “Nana” or “Nanny” by her grandbabies, who could do no wrong while at her house. She was an active member with Park Hill Christian Church, with a passion for singing which started at the age of 13. Jacque loved to camp, boat, fish, and cook for the whole family.
Jacque was preceded by her husband of 43 years, Donald C. Johannes, her sister Winnie Slaughter of Geneva, NE and her parent in-laws Henry Johannes and Joann Johannes; she is survived by her three children, Joshua (Jennifer) Johannes of Sherwood, AR; Christopher (Leah) Johannes of North Little Rock, AR; and Amanda (Kevin) Schroeder of Fairfield, CA; eight grandchildren: Holt and Violet Johannes; Aiden, Ava, and Gunner Johannes; Taylor Schroeder, Aislinn Grubb and Justin Schroeder. She is also survived by her sisters Vickie (Rick) Hagen of Belleville, KS and Pat (Lester) Bergstrom of Cuba, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any memorials be given to the Park Hill Christian Church Food Pantry in North Little Rock or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation will be 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday, February 5, 2024, at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home (1921 Main Street). A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Park Hill Christian Church with burial following at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.
