Jack Colburn, 73, of North Little Rock passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2006. He was born in Coal Hill, Arkansas, May 11, 1933 to Burse and Fern Colburn who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sarah Nelle Colburn; sons, Steve Colburn (Mary), of El Paso, Arkansas, James Colburn, of North Little Rock; daughter, Lisa Ring, of Conway; grandsons, Jeremiah Ring and Mitchell Colburn; granddaughters, Jessie Ring and Kasey Colburn; daughter-in-law, Lisa Colburn; many nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Taylor and Irene Taylor; and special neighbors, Joe and Mavis Johns.
Jack enjoyed playing and coaching baseball for over 30 years, having coached in the North Little Rock optimist club baseball program in Little League, Pony League and American Legion.
He was the voice of Oak Grove Hornets for several years coining such phrases as Roger the Dodger and Terrible Terry. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, mostly in Johnson County. He loved running his hunting dogs and later caring for his beloved cats.
He was a charter member of Triangle Sports Club enjoying his hunting buddies, Dale, Dave, Charlie, Bob, John, Royce, Harry and others. Some of his dearest friends were his ?baseball boys? Red, Butch, Fletch, P.M., Arvis and others.
Some of his favorite sayings were ?your cork?s under? and when he was ready to go ?Sack your bats?.
All of us who loved him dearly will miss him and Red he said you could have the front of the boat.
Memorials may be made to Cedar Heights Baptist Church or American Kidney Foundation.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 A.M., Friday at North Little Rock Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Riverwood Memorial Park in Maumelle.
