Jack Hamilton Burns, 86, of Little Rock, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2009. Born May 26, 1922 in Batesville, Arkansas, he was the son of Bartley Lewis and Myrtle Burns. He was retired after 35 years as Manager of Office Services at the VA Hospital. Jack was a Veteran of WWII, and retired from the 148th Evac Hospital with the Arkansas National Guard. He was a member and Deacon of Immanuel Baptist Church and also a member of The American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years , Dorothy Champion Burns of Little Rock; daughters, Kitty Schieck (Jim) of Plano, Texas, Becky Martin (Ted) of Camden, Arkansas and Barbara Barnett (Jerry) of Little Rock; son, Charles Burns (Lindy) of Sherwood; and a sister, Carolyn Toler (John) of North Little Rock; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jack Hamilton, Jr., and two brothers.
Services will be held on Monday, January 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church Chapel, officiated by Rev. Phil Spigner. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park in Alexander. Visitation will be this afternoon, Sunday, January 25 from 2-4 p.m. at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.), Little Rock.
