Jack Barentine

Jack Womack BARENTINE, formerly of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and most recently of Roseville, California, peacefully went Home to Jesus on Friday, April 19, 2019. Jack was born & raised in Amity, Arkansas by his widower mother, Etta or "Nanny" Barentine, along with five older siblings. Around 1940, Nanny moved her family to Arkadelphia where Jack completed his education and met the love of his life, Demoris Ann Murry whom he married in May 1950. He enlisted in the Army and was sent to Japan as part of the Occupying Forces as a Quartermaster. He returned to Arkadelphia to study at Henderson State and complete his ROTC training, receiving his Officer Commission as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was deployed to various locations in West Germany as an Armored Tank Commander and resigned his commission as a 1st Lieutenant prior to the Korean War.

Jack pursued a career in retail management and worked for JC Penney, Sears & Roebuck and Montgomery Wards. His career took him to various places in Texas and Arkansas and eventually to the Greater Kansas City Area, where he and Demoris Ann raised their son, John Murry, and daughter, Ann Elizabeth.

Jack’s primary passion was his family, watching sports and playing golf. Jack and Demoris Ann enjoyed travel, camping, bridge and visiting family and friends in their beloved home state of Arkansas. Jack’s good-natured attitude made him so easy to be around.  He was happiest watching multiple sporting events simultaneously, playing golf, eating ice cream and staying active. He was always happy, he could fix anything and was friendly to all.

Jack is survived by Ann Elizabeth and her family (Husband Doreun and son Jack Ford Ramalia), and John Murry and his family (Wife Deborah, son Jonathan Yates and daughter Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Barentine). Jack will be buried on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 11:00 at Rosehill Cemetery in Arkadelphia in the Murry Section next to his beloved wife of almost 50 years, Demoris Ann. Family and friends are planning a celebration of life for Jack later this summer.
