J. R. Alexander, age 75, of Mount Ida, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2022.
He was born on October 3, 1946, in Mount Ida, the son of Walter Eugene Alexander and Minnie Ethel Bates Alexander. On October 15, 1970, he was married to Alene Rebecca Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, W. C. Alexander; his two sisters, Mary Curry and Marie Stovall; and his first wife, Shirley Goss Alexander.
J. R. was a member of the Trinity Holiness Church in Glenwood and owner and operator of his pride and joy, Pappa’s Place Flea Market, where he and Alene spent many joyful hours, loving every minute of it. He enjoyed eating, especially sweets and Alene’s biscuits and gravy, drinking his Dr. Pepper, and going to fellowship meetings. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and many, many auctions over the years. He loved beautiful flowers and his “stupid” John Deere, as his family often referred to it. He will forever be remembered by his family and friends for his many stories, and was a big cutup, with a sense of humor that made many laugh at their most needed times.
Above all, J. R. was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend, who loved his family with all his heart. He will be deeply missed, but he has left us with many cherished memories to carry on forever. While our hearts are broken that we had to let him go so soon, we know he is in a much better place now and hold strong to our faith and know we will see him again one day soon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Alene Alexander of Mount Ida; his three daughters and their spouses, Kelita and Tony Rocha of Story, Jan Boyd of Mount Ida, Judi and Bartley Carlton of Prim; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tyler and Tylee Boyd of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, Kenya and Myles Dobson of Cushing, Oklahoma, Eva Carlton and Leda Carlton, both of Prim; two great-grandchildren, Harlee Dobson and his great-grandson, on the way, both of Cushing, Oklahoma; one sister, Betty Frelk of Bradenton, Florida; his brother-in-law, Bro. Gerald Anderson and his wife, Thelma, of Eunice, New Mexico; his sister-in-law, Edna Baggs and her husband, Wayne, of Pickens, Oklahoma; his sister-in-law, Joyce Anderson of Paul’s Valley, Oklahoma; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, May 9, 2022, in the Trinity Holiness Church with Bro. Sammy Cottrell, Bro. Gerald Anderson and Bro. Samuel Anderson officiating.
Visitation will be held Sunday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, at the church.
Interment will be in the Owley Cemetery in Mount Ida under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Boyd, Myles Dobson, Clark Boyd, Bartley Carlton, Samuel Anderson and Tony Cottrell.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Rocha, G. W. Helms, Kenny McGrew, C. J. Davis and Bro. Donald Welch.
