Iva Keen, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 17, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on March 24, 1938, in Holly Ridge, Louisiana, Iva was a vibrant soul known for her outgoing personality and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Iva's journey through life was marked by a profound commitment to raising her children, dedicating herself to their care and nurturing. Once her children were grown, she embraced a new chapter in her life, working in nursing homes, a private duty nurse assistant, a Nanny, and Hillcrest Children’s Home. Her passion for caregiving shone through every interaction, and she took great honor in caring for others (young and elderly) throughout her career.
Those fortunate enough to know Iva remember her not only for her kindness but also for her remarkable talents in the kitchen. She was famously known for her cornbread, tomato gravy, Chicken & Dumplings, and numerous other dishes. Iva was the life of the party, always bringing joy and happiness into the lives of those around her.
Music was a cherished part of Iva's life; she found immense joy in listening to and singing gospel music. Iva would often express her love for music by playing the tambourine. Her love of shopping was evident in her notable shoe collection, a testament to her fun-loving spirit. Iva's zest for life extended to her passion for traveling and spending time with her family, where she created lasting memories.
Iva held a strong appreciation for those who served in the military, regularly thanking veterans for their sacrifices and contributions to the freedoms enjoyed by all. Her faith was an essential aspect of her identity; she loved the Lord and was an active member of the Assembly of God faith.
Iva is survived by her loving children: Janette Goldston and husband Ernest of Adirondack, New York; Janet McGee and husband Brad of Benton, Arkansas; David Keen and wife Marty of Castor, Louisiana; Melvin Keen and wife Connie of Conroe, Texas; Jack Keen and wife Sherry of Shreveport, Louisiana; and Eric Keen and wife Temple of Denton, Texas. Iva's legacy continues through her 13 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, and 8 great-great-grandchildren, as well as many family members and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
