Ruby Inez Godwin, 84, of Little Rock, died Tuesday, May 25, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Thomas E. Godwin; her parents, Cecil and Bessie Linton Pettus of Pearson, and two brothers, James W. Pettus of Weatherford, Texas and Cecil G. Pettus of Conway. She is survived by her uncles, Billy Linton of Arizona and Billie Pettus, Sr. of Quitman and a host of other loving family members and friends, including cousins, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, grand-nephews and a great-great grand-niece.
She worked at Tuf-Nut Garment Manufacturing, and later at Southwestern Bell for 35 years. She was an active member of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneers, serving a term as President of the Little Rock Council and was twice awarded Arkansas Woman of the Year. She volunteered at Baptist Hospital, and once served as President of the Little Rock Business and Professional Women's Club, where she was also named Woman of the Year. She was a member of Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening, May 28 at Little Rock Funeral Home, 8801 Knoedl Ct. (NW corner I-630 and Barrow Rd.). Services will be held Saturday at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Nick Hamilton. A private graveside service will take place at the Little Rock National Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Institute for Cancer or the American Heart Association.
