Ima Montez Box was born on February 23, 1929, in Sherrill, Arkansas to James Edward Casey, Sr. and Flora May Reed. She was the oldest of twelve children who grew up in Southeast Arkansas. She married Raymond Therin Box on July 22, 1948, and served faithfully by his side in ministry for 45 years until the Lord called him home August 23, 1993. Together they raised two daughters, and she loved nothing more than serving her family and church. When her children became adults with their own families, she added the title, "Mamaw," and her heart only seemed to expand for more love.
Her devotion to Jesus Christ was evident as she cherished her husband, children and congregation. She was born to be a pastor's-wife as they served in and planted churches together from California to Arkansas. Sister Box, as she was known to most, lived her entire adult life serving in ministry. It was her call and passion. She was a kind, loving, generous, and Godly woman who was a devoted wife, mother and minister. It was all a gift from God entrusted to her stewardship and guided by The Holy Spirit.
Montez was also strong, independent and determined. In 2001, she went back to school to earn her high school diploma and graduated at the top of her class and was honored as Valedictorian. In retirement, she continued her life of service, often volunteering at the hospital in Malvern, and also at the Malvern Senior Center. At the Senior Center, she often delivered meals for those unable to travel. In addition to her volunteerism, she still continued to host Bible Studies in her home.
On Saturday, October 13, 2018, Montez passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family. When her Savior called her home, she was reunited with her beloved husband, Rev. Raymond T. Box; her parents, James and Flora Casey; brothers, Jimmie Donald and James Edward Casey; sisters, Doris Edna and Mildred Ann Casey; daughter, Miriam Lanette Costello; and a great-granddaughter, Ramsey Renee Moore.
Her life and legacy will continue to be remembered and celebrated by her family, daughter: Karen Elyse Garner and husband, Carl, of Hensley, AR; sisters, Ellen Thomas (Paul), Bernice Carter (Virgil), and JoAnn Farnam of Maumelle, AR; brothers, Larry W. Casey, Jerry L. Casey, and Leonard D.
