Hugh Creek, a dedicated educator, devoted family man, and respected member of the community, passed away on March 30, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on August 31, 1932, Hugh lived a life marked by a commitment to service, education, and his cherished family.
Hugh's career was defined by his passion for teaching and mentorship. He taught school for ten years before taking on the role of Vocational Director for the state of Arkansas. His influence extended further when he served as the Director of the Quapaw Votech School. Following his retirement, Hugh continued to contribute to the education sector by serving on the board for the community college and later working for the Lake Hamilton School District. As a proud veteran of the Korean War, Hugh exemplified the values of dedication and duty.
An alumnus of the University of Arkansas, Hugh graduated with a bachelor’s degree and went on to earn his master’s degree, achieving a milestone as the first in his family to graduate high school. His intellectual pursuits were complemented by his love for the outdoors; he was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time immersed in nature. He was also an active member of the Piney Grove Methodist Church, where he found joy and community.
Hugh held family as his highest priority. He was married to his beloved wife, Wanda Cheek, for 72 wonderful years. Together, they built a loving home filled with warmth, laughter, and memories. Hugh is survived by his daughter, Debbie Cobb of Rineyville, KY, and his sons, Richard Cheek and Janet of Hot Springs, AR, and Mike Cheek and Leigh of Texarkana, AR. He was a proud grandfather to Adam Cobb, Jason Cobb, Dylan Cobb, Ethan Cobb, Conner Cheek, Carlie Cheek, and Courtney Cheek, along with his grandson Kaleb Abercrombie and six great-grandchildren. His legacy of love, strength, and dedication will live on through them.
Visitation services for Hugh will be held on April 4, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Hot Springs, AR.
Hugh Creek will be remembered not only for his many contributions to education and his community but also for the profound impact he made on the lives of his family and friends. His spirit and legacy will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
