Our family circle has been broken, our hearts are sad. Hugh Lee was a grand lady and touched many lives. Hugh Lee Bates, 100, of Little Rock passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2012. She was born in Wapanucka, OK to Thomas and Roberta Wyatt. In 1937 she married Clifford A. Bates. They had two wonderful children and in 1948 moved to Hobbs, NM to raise their family. Hugh Lee worked at Hobbs High School teaching shorthand and typing. She was an avid duplicate bridge player and proud of her faith.
Preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Roberta Wyatt, brothers Thomas Wyatt and Charles Wyatt Sr., and sister Ann Ruth Innerarity, husband Clifford A. Bates, son Samuel Thomas Bates and daughter Brenda Sue Edwards. Hugh Lee is survived by her grandson Michael Edwards and wife Susan; Melinda Edwards Foutch and husband Steve; and Meredith Edwards. She had four wonderful great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Jessica and Sam Edwards, and Wyatt and Radford Foutch.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 10:00 a.m. at Presbyterian Village. Donations may be made in Hugh Lee's name to Presbyterian Village, 510 Brookside Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205 where she lived and loved her friends that were around her. The family and friends of Hugh Lee Bates will greatly miss her as she brought love and joy to everyone she encountered.
