Horace Norman Farnell, age 85, of Mount Ida, passed away Monday, October 14, 2013. He was born on April 9, 1928, at Stillwater, Oklahoma, the son of Horace Grady Farnell and Molly Mearl Lawson Farnell. On April 13, 1952, he was married to Lois Frachiseur. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack Farnell and E. J. Farnell. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was employed for many years with Standard Oil Company as an industrial electrician, was a faithful member of Faith Tabernacle in Mount Ida, and he truly loved his church family. He was also a member of the V.F.W., a Scout Master of Boys Scout Troop 20 of Smackover, and the Union President and International Representative of AFLCIO. He enjoyed collecting crystal stones and his greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, whom he dearly loved and cherished. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his loving wife, Lois Farnell of Mount Ida; his son, Mark Farnell of Mount Ida; his daughter, Tammie Noel of Mount Ida; his granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Randol, and her husband, Caleb, of Moline, Illinois; a very special friend who was like a daughter, Ida Marie Mollett of Bonnerdale; one sister and brother-in-law, Myrlene and Richard Carroll of Hot Springs Village; several nieces and nephews; and a host of wonderful friends. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, October 18, 2013, at Faith Tabernacle in Mount Ida with Bro. Paul Burke officiating. Visitation will be held Thursday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the church. Interment will be in the Stanley-Standridge Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Delton Hughes, Billy Mayberry, Roger Harbour, David James, Patrick Cray and Ken Cummins. Honorary pallbearers will be Lee Simpson, Arvin Saveall and Bill Scurlock.
