Homer Harley Matthews, 96, of North Little Rock passed away Sunday July 26, 2015. He was born May 7, 1919 to the late Robert and Melissa Matthews in Perry County, Arkansas. He served in the United States Army during World War II. After retiring from the Veterans Administration Hospital as Paint Foreman, he moved to Scott where he loved to fish and garden. He also enjoyed deer and elk hunting, spending time with his family and friends and was a great dad full of love and orneriness.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita Matthews; his daughter, Patricia Matthews Priest, son-in-law, Bing E. Priest; grandson, James E. Priest, whom he played poker with weekly; great-granddaughter, Andie Priest; two stepchildren, Suzie Wendell, Boyd Hauswirth and wife Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings; and granddaughter, Brandy Priest.
A visitation will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday at Smith - North Little Rock Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m., Friday at Harmony Cemetery in Perry County. Online obituary at
