Homer Gene Connell, 73, of Little Rock passed on to Heaven on Friday, June 17, 2016. He was born May 18, 1943 in Blytheville, Arkansas. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Homer founded one of Little Rock's iconic landmarks, Homer's Restaurant in 1986. He retired in 2003 to focus on his wife and grandkids.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Remedios Mapili Connell; children, Robert Connell (Alicia), Katrina Vaughn and David Connell (Mandy); grandchildren, Logan Connell, Gracie Connell, Joey Connell, Loren Clawitter, Hayden Clawitter, Gavin Vaughn, Nathan Vaughn, Chris Connell, Becca Jo Connell and Gus Connell; siblings, Shirley Lapa, Judy Bynum, Jimmy Connell (Judy), Janet Sawyer (Jim), Richard Connell (Cindy), Ronnie Connell (Beth), Emily Ray, Tim Ray; mother, Bernice Cohen Broadway and other extended family. Homer will be missed by the many friends he made throughout his life serving the community through his restaurants.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer L. Connell; aunt, Katie Connell Ray and his uncle, Ernest Ray.
Memorials may be made to Remedios Mapili Connell, Remy Connell Trust, Pleasant Valley Nursing Home, 12111 Hinson Road, Little Rock, Arkansas 72212.
A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 22 followed by a memorial service at 5:00 p.m., at Smith - North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main Street. There will be a gathering afterwards for family and close friends, details to be announced.
