Hogan McPherson Mitchell

HOGAN McPHERSON MITCHELL, nearly 27 years of age, awoke in the presence of God on Saturday morning, December 17, 2022, at 8:02 a.m.

Hogan fell into a state of unconsciousness, during the night of Wednesday, Dec. 7^th / morning of Thursday, Dec. 8^th due to complications associated with his severe Juvenile Diabetes and a bipolar disorder.

Hogan was transported by ambulance from Baptist Health Hospital Emergency Room in Arkadelphia to CHI St. Vincent Hospital, Intensive Care Unit in Hot Springs, on Thursday, Dec. 8^th, where he remained for nine calendar days.  CHI St. Vincent Neurology Staff discovered Hogan suffered at least two strokes (in his brain) early on while in his unconscious state.

Hogan’s body was not able to regain consciousness before his date of death.  Hogan was an organ donor.  Several people/families discovered they were each receiving a sudden unexpected ‘gift of life’ for their loved one from Hogan’s generous organ donations as he departed from his earthly body.

HOGAN McPHERSON MITCHELL was born February 9, 1996, in Camden, Arkansas.  Hogan grew up living with his mother and father in The Mustin Lake area of Camden and in Arkadelphia and Little Rock.  Hogan attended public school in Arkadelphia and public and private schools in Little Rock.

As a young adult, Hogan lived mostly in Arkadelphia with his maternal grandmother.  He procured his GED in Arkadelphia several years ago and attended college classes in Malvern, Arkansas, at College of The Ouachita’s for a period of time. 

As a young adult, Hogan also worked for three Arkadelphia employers in particular:  Star Services (professional floor care, residential and commercial), OZARK Cleaners and Laundry on Pine Street and briefly for The Hamburger Barn

Hogan was very generous.

He was a child of God.  Hogan especially loved the Bible.  He read his Bibles (plural), and he studied his Bibles for long periods of time.  He enjoyed discussing passages from The Bible with anyone who would partake in such a discussion.

Hogan rarely watched television, but when he did, it was generally popular TV evangelists preaching.  He also enjoyed watching YouTube viewings on a Smartphone.  He enjoyed music, and he liked to play drum sets and guitars.

HOGAN McPHERSON MITCHELL is survived by his father and his mother, T. Blake Mitchell and Carol Reeder Mitchell of Little Rock, Arkansas; a younger brother, Maverick Mitchell of the Little Rock area and an older brother Zachary (Dr. Ali) Mitchell of Arkadelphia. 

He is also survived by a maternal grandmother, Ella Ruth Reeder, whom he lived with since he was a young adult in Arkadelphia. 

Hogan is also survived by his maternal uncles, Wes Reeder, his guardian and John (Jo Carol) Reeder, both of Arkadelphia, and maternal first cousins: Crystal Reeder Kalapatapu (husband, Dr. Venkat) and their 3 children, all of Malvern, PA, and Lane Reeder (Alicia) and their 3 children, all of Waterown, NY.

He is survived by his paternal grandfather, Travis Mitchell and paternal grandmother, Nancy Mitchell, both of Hot Springs.  His paternal aunts are Piper (Mike) Mitchell Doubleday of St. Petersburg, Florida, Taylor (Rand) Mitchell Doyle of Saint Matthews, South Carolina and Molly Mitchell (Rob Thurston) of Plymouth, Massachusetts; his paternal first cousins are Brodie Stewart, Callie Stewart and Tucker Stewart.  Their father is Uncle Jerrod Stewart all of Oxford, Mississippi.  More paternal first cousins include Townes Doyle, Jude Doyle and baby Frankie Mitchell-Thurston.

His maternal niece, Bentley Jester-Mitchell of Searcy and his maternal nephew Reeder Mitchell of Arkadelphia also survive their Uncle Hogan.

Hogan was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Frank A. ‘Bud’ Reeder and his maternal aunt Karen Cash Reeder, both of Arkadelphia.

Hogan’s visitation and funeral services will both be held Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at Berry Chapel on the campus of Ouachita Baptist University.  Family Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m., and Hogan’s funeral service/celebration of life will be at 2:00 p.m.

Burial will follow at DeGray Cemetery across from DeGray Baptist Church at 1492 DeGray Road in Arkadelphia.

Pastor Charlie Williams will officiate the funeral service and the graveside burial.

Vocal music is being sung by local OBU and First Baptist Church affiliates: Soprano – Candice Aipperspach; Alto – Janie Thompson; Tenor – Steve Garner and Baritone – Will Thomspon with Pianist – Ian Aipperspach.
