Hilmon Childress age 92 of Bismarck passed away April 20, 2009. He was born April 21, 1916 to Winfield and Queen Elizabeth Lookadoo Childress. He was a retired Forest Ranger with the Arkansas Forestry Commission, cattleman and tree farmer. Hilmon was a member and past Sunday School teacher at Valley Missionary Baptist Church and one fine gentleman and special Papa. He was preceded in death by his wife of seventy-four and a half years on April 1, 2009, Clora Childress; his son, Royce Childress; triplet grandsons, Timmy, Jimmy, and Johnny Childress; his parents; three sisters, Allie Hunt, Vada Small, Leona Looper; and one brother, Clark Childress.
Survivors include his daughter in law and her husband, Pat and Don Daniels; granddaughter, Anna Smith and her husband Terry, and great grandsons, Andrew and Aaron; grandson Blake Bell and wife Meredith, and great grandchildren, Adam, Allie, and Jarret, all of Arkadelphia; his sister, Nettie Burchfield of Hot Springs; granddaughter and husband Pam and Andy Bell, and great grandsons, Dustin and Jordan; and brother in law, Charlie Whitfield, all of Bismarck; special friends Joan and Jerald Friday and Barbara Loy; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family would like to give thanks for the extraordinary care and love Hilmon and Clora received throughout the years by everyone, especially to their devoted friend and caregiver of eight and one half years, Joan Hearnsberger Friday, Barbara and Shelly Loy, Terra Smith, Glenna Williams, Heather Massey, and honorary minister Cecil Sutley.
Funeral services will be 2 P.M. Thursday in the Valley Missionary Baptist Church with Rev, Danny Kilcrease and Rev. Jerald Friday officiating. Burial will be in the Valley Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 P.M. Wednesday in Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home in Arkadelphia.
Pallbearers will be Dustin, Jordan, and Blake Bell, Andrew and Aaron Smith, and Joe Lynch.
