Herschal Wiley

Herschal Dowell Wiley Sr. entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 5th, at the age of 80. He was born May 18, 1941, to Vincent and Edythe Wiley in Burnet, Texas. He attended elementary school in Alpine, Giddings and Leander before the family settled in Austin. He met his future wife while attending Wharton Jr. College and the pair married two years later.

Herschel and Pam had three sons and he enjoyed coaching them in football, baseball and basketball. For twelve years he served in several capacities within the Brazoswood Youth Football Association, establishing teams in Lake Jackson, Sweeney, Freeport, Bay City, West Brazos and Angleton. Herschal was a proud member of the First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. He was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis in 1993, which altered his plans for retirement and led them to Sherwood, Arkansas, to receive extra care from family.

Herschal is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Pamela Gray Wiley; his sons Chris (Kelli) of Clute, Texas; Bill (Lisa) of Sherwood, Arkansas; Herschal (Krista) of Yorktown, Virginia; grandchildren Lorin, Corey, Joshua, Caleb, Gabe, Dalton, Emma, Grayson, Alexia Hux and Herschal Dowell Wiley III, due on Herschal’s birthday; and his newest source of pride, great granddaughter, Sofia Ochoa. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Wylleane and Sue.

Saying ‘I love you’ daily and spending time with his family was his gift to us that we will cherish forever. At Herschal’s request, there will not be a service or burial at this time. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation of America in Herschal’s memory.
