Herbert Stanley Stanford, age 85 of Little Rock formerly of Arkadelphia died Friday, February 09, 2007 at the Arkansas Hospice. He was born Jan 20, 1922 in Arkadelphia the son of the late Herbert Floyd and Lucille Ray Stanford. He attended Arkadelphia public schools, was a Ouachita Baptist University graduate and received his Master's Degree from George Peabody College in Nashville, TN. He served in the U.S. Army 9th Infantry Division in WWII and was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart. After the war he returned to Arkadelphia where he worked in the Arkadelphia Public schools for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Hardage Stanford; one daughter, Janice Stanford of Little Rock.
Services will be 1:00 PM Monday, Feb. 12, 2007 in the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating.
Pallbearers will be Ronnie and John Echols, Bobby Jones, Bobby Thompson, Dr. Ray Wilson and Maury Rigler. Honorary pallbearers will Thursday Noon Lions Club, Billy Ruggles, Raymond Toler, Jess Phillips, Eugene Melton, Bob Massery, Leonard Spitzer and Jerry Cavaneau.
Interment will be in Rose Hill Cemetery under the direction of Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 11 AM Monday until service time at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to the Arkansas Hospice, 5600 W. 12th Little Rock, AR 72204 or the First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
