Herbert W. Knopf, 82, of Little Rock, died December 19, 2009 at Pleasant Valley Living Center. He was born in Little Rock on December 9, 1927.
Herb was retired from Union Pacific Railroad. He graduated from Little Rock High School, Little Rock Junior College and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville. He served in the Navy during the Korean War.
Herb was an enthusiastic tennis player, having participated for many years in USTA league team tennis. He was fortunate to be on teams that consistently won State and Southern Regional tennis tournaments, one of which went on to play in the USTA National Tournament. He was also very active at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church.
Herb was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Tommy Knopf and Charles Knopf; his sister, Dorothy Ellis; a grandson, Joshua Barrett and daughter, Mary Witherspoon Giuffria. Herb is survived by his wife, Mary; his children, Karen and husband, David Ijams, Kathy and husband, Rick Bliss, Kim and husband, Miles Barrett, Larry and wife, Desiree Witherspoon, Brooks and wife, Cara Witherspoon and Rick and wife, Diana Witherspoon; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and two special nieces, Donna Knopf and husband, John Wyrick and Betty Ellis and husband, Dennis McKissick.
A celebration of his life will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Westover Hills Presbyterian Church, 6400 Richard B. Hardie Dr. (Kavanaugh at McKinley), Little Rock, with Dr. Debbie Freeman officiating.
