Helen Pennington Wait, age 89, of Hot Springs, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019. She was born on January 2, 1930 in the Meyers Creek community of Garland County, the daughter of Walter Denton Norman and Irene Buck Norman. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband and father of her children, Cleo Pennington; her second husband, Fred Wait; and seven siblings, Ava Jean Norman, Ruby Norman, Glendell Norman, Fayola Norman, Validee Tackett, Denton Norman and Douglas Norman. Helen was a devout Christian woman and lived her faith through example. She prepared food for a homeless ministry, read her Bible daily and was an early morning prayer warrior. She adored her children and grandchildren and taught them about the Lord. She was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church and a former member of Emanuel Baptist Church. She loved growing flowers and a large vegetable garden each year. Helen also enjoyed painting, cooking and was famous for her pineapple fried pies, chocolate chip cookies, her fudge and "purple" pickles. She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Joan and Nick Salyer of Redding, California, Peggy and Eddie Kirchhoff of Glenwood and Kay and Tony Lawson of Bremerton, Washington; six grandchildren and their spouses, Lette Smith, Tammie and Eli Moreno, Valli and John Wiggins, Jennifer and Paul Struck, Craig and Lindsay Kirchhoff and David "Tinker" and April Porter; ten great-grandchildren, Elijah Moreno, Rayce Wiggins, West Wiggins, Bradley Struck, Hayden Kirchhoff, Haley Struck, Adley Kirchhoff, Kendall Kirchhoff, LaRissa Porter and Cutter Ford; two great-great-grandchildren, Addison Pruit and Belle Porter; one brother and sister-in-law, Telford and Patty Norman of Hamburg; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, November 17, 2019 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. David "Tinker" Porter and Elijah Moreno officiating. Visitation will be held Saturday, 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Eli Moreno, Craig Kirchhoff, David "Tinker" Porter, Paul Struck, Elijah Moreno and Kendall Kirchhoff. Honorary pallbearers will be Eddie Kirchhoff, Nick Salyer and Tony Lawson.
