Helen Mae Thomason, age 93, of Glenwood, received her heavenly promotion on Thursday, July 11, 2019, at her home with her niece and caregiver, Linda, by her side. Helen was born on April 23, 1926 at Langley, the daughter of Luther Vaughn and Eppie Featherston Vaughn. On December 24, 1948, she married the love of her life, Johnny Thomason who passed into eternity on August 22, 1985. Also preceding her in death were her parents and all her siblings, two sisters, Lavada Vaughn and Dorothy "Dot" Vaughn White, and three brothers, Hershel Vaughn, P. W. "Pete" Vaughn and Arlie Vaughn. Although Helen and Johnny never had biological children, they considered nieces, nephews and their church children as their own. They loved them all dearly. After Johnnys passing, Helen asked her great-nephew, Scott Vaughn and his wife of two months, Linda, to move by her home. They gladly did so. They and their four children, Kevin, Bethany, Derek and Alex have remained by her side constantly. She loved playing with the children and watching them grow. She proudly called them "My grandchildren." Helen was a hard worker. She and Johnny worked for years in the fruit harvests in California, Oregon and Washington. They saved money and bought land at Glenwood in 1963. They enjoyed working their cattle and poultry farm which she continued to work after Johnnys death. She loved the outdoors and thoroughly enjoyed yard work and playing outside with the children. She delighted in sewing, crocheting and always making things for her family and friends. Helen was a devout Christian in her faith. She loved her church family at Trinity Holiness Church. She also enjoyed visiting the Newhope Free Will Baptist Church, where her nephew Scott pastors, for singing and supper nights. Helen leaves behind a host of family and friends who will forever cherish her memory. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 14, 2019, in the Mount Tabor Community Church with Bros. Sammy Cottrell, Don Vaughn and Harold Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be her nephews.
