Heather Suzanne Grant, 43 was involved in an accident in Steel, Alabama International Dragway attending a Block Fest. She passed away from a severe traumatic brain injury at the University of Alabama Hospital on October 8, 2022.
Heather Suzanne Grant was born in Little Rock, AR to Newton and Janet McNew on November 1, 1978. She grew up in Sherwood attended Oakbrooke Elementary, Sylvan Hills Jr. High, and graduated from Sylvan Hills High School in 1997. She studied Radiology at the Jefferson State Community College in Alabama for three years and was a certified nursing assistant. She worked at the Sherwood Bowling Alley right out of high school, later served veterans as an Operations Manager in the Veterans Canteen Service at the Eugene J. Towbin Healthcare Center in NLR, Assistant manager administration at the University of Medical Science in LR and Patient Care Service at the Trinity Medical Center in Alabama. Once she received her certification in nursing, she worked for Mount Royal Towers and Birmingham East Nursing and Rehab in Alabama.
Heather loved animals, bowling, archery, sports, and cooking. She was active in life started young pitching for her softball team, later was on a bowling league and made flag line, and showed spirit wearing the Bear mascot suit at the school ballgames. Heather played the saxophone in the high school band and enjoyed a moment of fame playing a saxophone duet with Kenny G at Barton Coliseum. She enjoyed cooking learning at a young age in the kitchen with mother and would go out in the backyard practicing archery, with her little red bow and arrow with dad.
Heather is survived by her mother Janet McNew, sister Melody Roachell (Shawn), her two children; Hannah McNew and Clifford Grant the IV; uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her father, Newton L. McNew; brother, Shane McNew; grandparents, Sherril and Mildred McNew, Virgil and Faye Skinner.
The family of the late Heather Grant acknowledges with sincere appreciation the comforting messages and gifts of love during this time of loss. We especially acknowledge the generosity of Steven and Sharon Carpenter.
Visitation starts at 12:30 pm followed by the Funeral at 1:30 pm November 1, 2022, at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rest Hills Cemetery in Sherwood. Pallbearers include: Shawn Roachell, Aaron Kinder, Matthew McNew, Steve Carpenter, Accyllia Roachell. Honorary pallbearers include Newton McNew, Hannah McNew and Clifford Grant, IV.
