Hazel Fern Sullivan, 94, long-time resident of the Romance area, died Sunday, the 29th of November, at the Walnut Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas. She was born December 29, 1914, in Saltillo, Arkansas, to Sibley and Bertha Graham. She was a member of the Mount Vernon Baptist Church at Mount Vernon, Arkansas.
Hazel was an avid gardener, homemaker, and a long-time member of the Extension Homemakers Club. She took pride in being a Sunday school teacher and active member of her church. She was noted as a great cook by the many who dined at her table, and as one who loved the outdoors with recreations such as fishing, swimming, and spending time growing beautiful flowers. She will be sadly missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by one daughter, Sybil (Arvel) Taylor of Alicia, Arkansas; and two sons, Ralph (June) Sullivan of Romance, Arkansas, and Graham (Connie) Sullivan of Newport, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Mary Fuqua, James Taylor, Jr. (Sandy), Larry Taylor, all of Coweta, Oklahoma, Carrie Wise of Romance, Arkansas, Sarah Duvall of Cabot, Arkansas, Nathan Sullivan of Cabot, Arkansas, and Matthew Pennington of Ft. Campbell, Kentucky; twelve great- grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joan Burlew, Bobby Sue Henry; one brother, Kenneth Wright; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Hazel was preceded in death by her spouse of fifty years, Mike Nathaniel Sullivan; her parents; one brother; and six sisters.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009 at the Mount Vernon Baptist Church with Jake McCandleless and Billy Jack Leach officiating. Burial will follow in the Romance Cemetery. Prior to the funeral, visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Westbrook Funeral Home (501-882-5412.)
