Hazel Mullen, age 84, of Hot Springs, passed away on Saturday, September 16, 2023.
She was born on June 12, 1939, in Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Henry Epp and Anna Vogt Epp. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Tim Fryhover, her sister, Jo Ann Janus; her first husband, Charles Fryhover; and her second husband, Mike Mullen.
Her kindness knew no bounds as she went out of her way to lend a helping hand to those in need. Hazel had an infectious smile that could brighten even the darkest of days, and her genuine care for others was evident in every interaction she had.
Hazel's love for her family was one of her proudest accomplishments. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to nurturing and supporting her loved ones throughout her life and taking care of her handicapped son. As a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she created a safe and loving home where everyone felt welcomed and cherished. Her selflessness and unwavering love will forever be treasured by her family. With her warm heart and gentle spirit, Hazel touched the lives of everyone she met.
Outside of family life, Hazel had many interests that brought joy to her daily routine. She found solace in collecting tiny villages, carefully curating a miniature world within her own home. This hobby spoke to her attention to detail and appreciation for beauty in the smallest things. Each village held a special place in Hazel's heart and showcased her creativity. Hazel was also an avid bowler who found immense delight in spending time at the local bowling alley.
Additionally, Hazel had a talent for cooking that will be fondly remembered by all who had the pleasure of tasting her dishes. Her burritos were legendary among friends and family members alike. The secret to their deliciousness remained a mystery only known to Hazel herself. She took pleasure in bringing people together through food and shared countless memorable moments around the dining table.
She is survived by her three children, Terry and Linda Fryhover of Royal, David Fryhover of Royal and Debbie and Tom Miller of Alexis, North Carolina; five grandchildren, Jamie Smith of Pearcy, Jason Fryhover of Royal, Shelly Presley of Pearcy, Tiffanie (Ryan) Wilson of North Carolina and Nathan (Stephenie) Miller of North Carolina; great-grandchildren, Brenndon Palmer, Aiden Davis, Gaige Smith, all of Pearcy, Hannah (Austin) Hale of South Carolina, Hailey Fryhover of Hot Springs, Hunter Edgmon, Levi Edgmon, Asher Presley all of Pearcy, Jordan Wilson, Natalie Wilson, Caden Miller and Lukas Miller all of North Carolina; extended family members and a host of wonderful friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Smith Family Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
