Hazel Rhoden Derden, age 89, of North Little Rock, died March 8, 2008. She was born November 11, 1918, near Sheridan, Ark., to Lonnie and Lina Rhoden. She received her education from Sheridan High School and Draughn?s Business College. She worked as a secretarial Supervisor/Instructor for the Army Corps of Engineers for 22 years and received an Award of Meritorious Service from the Department of the Army. In addition, she was an exemplar of Beta Sigma Phi and longtime member of the United Methodist Church. She was loved and admired for her wit, intellect, selflessness, and integrity and was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, a brother and her husband, Lewis L. Derden. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robin Mellinger (Butch) of Louisiana and David Derden (Kathy) of Arkansas; grandchildren Lana Reaves (Steve) and Hillary Mellinger; sister Claudia Goolsby; and nephews, Max Goolsby, Archie Rhoden and Vernon Rhoden.
Graveside service will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday at Memorial Park in Pine Bluff. Family will receive friends from 10:00 A.M. to 12:00 Noon Tuesday at North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170. Online obituary and guest register at www.nlrfh.com.
