Calvin "Hassel" Huneycutt, age 86, of Rogers, AR, formerly of Arkadephia, AR died Saturday, February 12, 2011. Born in Manchester, Arkansas, on April 26, 1924, he was the son of Leonard Garfield and Annie Lee Huneycutt. A World War II veteran, Hassel joined the Navy in 1943 where he piloted Higgins Landing Craft boats in the taking of Guam. In 1945 he returned to Arkansas and attended Arkansas Polytechnic College from 1948-1950. He enlisted with the Arkansas Army National Guard in 1949, served full-time between 1951-1953 in Russelville, then entered active duty in the US Army in 1955, where he served until he retired from service in 1973. After 10 years as a maintenance specialist, he also retired from the Baptist Medical Center in Arkadelphia.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Rosemary, and son Gregg Alan, and 5 sisters, and 7 brothers.
He is survived by a son, Lt Col Marc Huneycutt (Ret) and his wife Judy, of Rogers, AR; grandson Chad and his wife Brandy, of Atlanta, GA; two great-grandchildren, Caleb and Allyson; one brother, Terrel Dean Huneycutt of Dallas Texas; one sister, Lucile Purifoy of Malvern; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 1pm at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home with Brother Gary Harvey and Elder Vernon Lee officiating. Graveside service will follow at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
