Harriet A. Garrison age 86 of Arkadelphia died Wednesday, January 20, 2010 in Arkadelphia at her home. She was born May 13, 1923 in Fulton, Arkansas the daughter of the late Dan and Allie Davis Harkness. Mrs. Garrison was a member of the P.E.O., Henderson State University Alumni, was a graduate of the Washington University School of Nursing in St. Louis, Missouri and a member of First Baptist Church of Arkadelphia.
The governor of Arkansas made her in 1992 an Arkansas Ambassador for her contributions to the State of Arkansas. Her late husband, Dr. Martin B. Garrison, who served as president of Henderson State University from 1970 until 1986, preceded her in death in 1990.
Survivors are her children, Milton Brooks Garrison of Clarksville, Missouri; Daniel Harkness Garrison of Houston, Texas; Mary Suzanne Hurwitz of Washington, D.C; two sisters, Laura Sue Clemens of Louisville, Kentucky; Mary Lou Moyer of Kirksville, Missouri; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, January 23, 2010 in the Arkadelphia First Baptist Church with Dr. Lee McGlone officiating. Interment will be at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be 6-8:30 PM Friday at Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Martin B. and Harriet A. Garrison Scholarship Fund at Henderson State University.
