Harold Shady Standridge, age 90, of Little Rock was reunited with his beautiful brown-eyed girl, Joyce, along with family and friends and our Lord Jesus Christ on October 22, 2024.He was born to the late Anglish Shady Standridge and Dorothy Willcutt Standridge on October 14, 1934, in Holla Bend Bottoms near Atkins, Arkansas.
Possibly the inventor of elbow grease, Harold grew up as a sharecropper’s son and endured many hardships during his formative years. At the age of 19, he married Joyce Ann Baier, the love of his life, on November 20, 1953. After two years of marriage, Harold’s mother and father were forced into the TB Sanitorium in Booneville, Arkansas. Harold and Joyce along with his sister, Thelma and husband, James, took in their siblings to provide a loving home and to keep the family together until their mother was finally released.
Harold and Joyce bought, and with the help of family and friends, cleared two acres of forested land. As children of sharecroppers, and now with two young daughters, their dreams of owning a home became a reality. They lived life to the fullest in that home for 59 years. They also worked together for many years and retired from Teletype, AT&T, Lucent Technologies and Nokia Technologies. He influenced many lives and loved his family deeply. Harold will forever be in our hearts.
Harold was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Joyce Ann Baier Standridge, his parents and siblings: Thelma Dixon, “Polly” Bascue, Shirley Bascue, Ralph Ewin, Paul Gene, Jack and Gerry Standridge. He is survived by two daughters, Rhonda House (Dennis) of The Villages, FL, and Carolyn Easley (Gary) of Bryant, AR, three granddaughters; Meridith House, Shelle House, Carrie Easley and two great granddaughters; Brooklynn Lyons and Lillyanna Lyons; along with one sister, Jane Campbell and one brother; Ron (Shirley) Standridge along with a host of beloved nieces and nephews and extended family and friends.
He was able to realize his desire to age at home through the compassionate and self-sacrificing care of many. We especially thank his beloved sister-in-law Pat Standridge, his nephew David Riddling, his neighbor Keith Hawkins and long-time friend Sue Richardson. We are also grateful to his Elder Independence caregivers Brenda Jackson, Kathleen Steinke and Yudy Guerrero, and the companionship and assistance of his roommate, Forrest Wilson in his final days at Alcoa Pines.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, October 24, at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home, 7700 Highway 107, in Sherwood. Funeral services will be Friday, October 25, at 10:00 am also at Smith Funeral Home in Sherwood. Interment will follow at the Pisgah Cemetery in Pottsville, Arkansas, at 2:00 pm.
