Harold Downing, 83, of Little Rock, passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010. Born in Little Rock on November 8, 1926 to Eugene J. and Marie Hampel Downing, he was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Mahoney Downing, a sister, a brother, two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Surviving are eleven children, Pegi Garbett of Little Rock, Jean Black of Columbia, Missouri, Lee Downing of Quitman, Susan Downing of Jacksonville, Barbara Wise of Coppell, Texas, Virginia Downing of Mabelvale, Bob Downing of Bryant, Theresa Burnett of Paron, David Downing of Hughes, Tom Downing and Nancy Anglin, both of North Little Rock. Also surviving are his sisters, Frances Montalvo of Pasadena, Texas, Shirley Honeysuckle of Benton and Pat Pearson of Conway; his brother, Jimmy Downing of Louisiana; twenty-six grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, April 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church by Rev. Richard Zawadzki, followed by burial with Military Honors at Calvary Cemetery. The Rosary will be held Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the church, preceded by visitation beginning at 5:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
