Harold Davenport

Harold Eugene Davenport passed from this life September 24, 2019, at St. Vincent’s North Hospital in Sherwood. Seeing him on his journey were wife Jan, sister, George Ann Rhodes, brother-in-law, Bill Rhodes and friend, Reverend Jim Dalton.

Harold was born on May 2, 1935 in England, Arkansas, the third born son of George Sanford and Ruby (Hall) Davenport. He graduated from Old Main in 1954 and entered the US Navy.  Upon discharge from the Navy, Harold joined the US Air Force and retired in 1978 as a Master Sergeant. After which he worked as an electrician for Union Pacific until he retired in 2002.

Harold was a kind, loving son, brother and the sweetest husband any woman could ask for.  He endured a tough battle for the past four years but never complained; never losing his wonderful smile.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby (Hall Davenport); brother, Grover Davenport; nephews, Tommy Rhodes, Jerry Davenport; and niece, Tina Willum.

He is survived by wife, Jan (Hearn) Davenport; sister, George Ann Rhodes (Bill); brother, Jimmy Davenport; nieces, Cookie Brown (Bruce}, Tammie Tabor, Michelle Hearn Brasel (Russell), Kelly Niemeyer (Kevin); nephews, Mark Davenport, Michael Davenport, Chris Hearn (Jennifer), and numerous great nieces and nephews.   And his buddy and constant companion, Maddy!

Visitation will be held Thursday, October 3, from 6:00-8:00 p.m at Smith Sherwood Funeral Home (7700 Hwy 107) with services Friday, 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Jacksonville (2413 Northeastern Ave.) with committal to follow in the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery.  Please visit www.smithsherwoodfuneralhome.com
