H. Kelley Geurin, Jr., 77, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with the Lord May 23, 2022. He was born February 14, 1945 in Little Rock to the late Horace Kelley Geurin, Sr. and Helen (Suggs) Geurin.
He graduated from Benton High School in 1963. He then graduated from Harding University with a Bachelor's degree in 1967 and a Master’s Degree in 1969. Kelley also obtained his Education Specialist Degree from Tennessee Technological University.
A retired school teacher, he taught biology, chemistry, and physical science for over thirty years in the Pulaski County Special School District. He taught at McClellan High School, Sylvan Hills Junior High School, and Sylvan Hills High School.
Kelley loved the Lord with all his heart and strived to live a Godly life daily. He loved to read and study God's word. He was a member of Northside Church of Christ and preached at Redfield Church of Christ for the last sixteen years.
After his faith, family was most important to Kelley. He adored his wife, children, and two grandchildren. He treated all his in-laws as one of his own family, especially his daughter-in-law and son-in-law. Kelley made it clear that he loved his grandchildren with all his heart. One of his favorite things to do was take the grandchildren for a ride on his Gator (ATV). His granddaughter, Finley would flap her heart out to show how much she loved it. He would listen patiently to his grandson, Jackson’s stories and songs and jokes and even helped Jackson record a video because Jackson asked for his help. He enjoyed staying in touch with his extended family and visiting with them when possible.
Kelley often did things for others “behind the scenes”. He was always looking for a way to serve and encourage people. He enjoyed spending time in the gazebo in his backyard where he watched the birds, squirrels, and deer. Kelley also enjoyed deer hunting at deer camp in South Arkansas. Kelley and his wife, Judy enjoyed the simple things in life. They enjoyed taking long drives all over Arkansas looking at old homes, churches, and old barns.
Kelley was a quiet man who had a positive impact on the lives of all who knew him. He would always put others ahead of himself, and truly loved people like Christ loved him. He believed the most important thing was to have a relationship with Christ, and he leaves a legacy of children and grandchildren who follow Christ because of his commitment and example.
Preceding Kelley in death are his parents; and special uncle, Horace Suggs. He is also preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Mitchel and Vada Mainord.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife of fifty years, Judy Geurin of Benton, Arkansas; children: Jessica Thomas and husband, Bryan of Benton and Jeremy Geurin and wife, Aubri of Stockdale, Texas; grandchildren: Jackson and Finley Geurin; Northside Church of Christ church family; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00 PM, Thursday, May 26, at Smith-Benton Funeral Home, 322 N. Market Street in Benton. Funeral service held at 2:00 PM, Friday, May 27 at Smith-Benton Funeral Home with burial following at Old Rosemont Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Superior Home Care and Saline Memorial Hospice for their tender care and attention to Kelley during the last two weeks. The family also appreciates all the calls, visits, and messages during this time. Memorials may be made to Corin Read Christian Camp through Northside Church of Christ.
