Gwendolyn Sims -Yeargin, 77, of Benton, Arkansas went to be with the Lord July 12, 2021. She was born July 11, 1944 in Lexa, Arkansas to Oliver Lee Sims, Sr. and Kathryn James Sims.
Gwendolyn loved the Lord and accepted Christ as her Savior at an early age. She graduated from the University of Pine Bluff, formerly AM&N in 1965. Gwendolyn moved to Chicago in 1966 and quickly became an avid Chicago Bears fan. She retired after teaching in the Chicago School System for over thirty-eight years. Gwendolyn was the fourth of eight children. Bowling and playing poker were some of her favorite activities. She also enjoyed gardening with her sister and the love of her life, Egbert. Gwendolyn loved to travel with her “Red- Hatters Club” and The Fabulous Ladies and Gentlemens Tournament Bowling Club.
Preceding Gwendolyn in death are her parents, Oliver and Kathryn Sims, and brother, James Ray Sims.
Gwendolyn leaves behind to cherish her memory her longtime companion of over thirty years, Egbert Nicholson; daughters: Stephanie Copeland and husband Micheal Copeland, and Mia Yeargin, all of Benton, Arkansas ; grandchildren: William M. McArthur, Jr., of Southfield, Michigan and Loren D. McArthur of Little Rock, Arkansas and two fur grandbabies: Kermit and George. She also leaves behind her six siblings--four brothers, Bobby Sims Sr. (Mina) of San Antonio, Texas, Oliver Lee Sims of St. Louis, Missouri, Jerry Sims (Catherine) of Chicago, Illinois, and Kenneth Sims (Celeste) of Little Rock, Arkansas-her two sisters and best friends, Jeanette Cobb of Chicago, Illinois and Jacquelyn Sims Copeland of Dallas, Texas and a host of nieces and nephews, family members and friends who loved Gwendolyn and will miss her always.
Visitation will be held from 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday, July 24, with funeral service following at The Church at Rock Creek in Little Rock. Repass to follow at the church.
