Gwendolyn Merkel Smith, 95, of Austin, Arkansas, formerly of Napton, Missouri, passed away January 23, 2016. She was a member of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Napton and was the postmaster of the Napton post office for twenty-nine years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of forty-nine years, T. Crutcher Smith. She is survived by her brother, James Merkel of Sherwood; nephews Jimmy (Debbie) Merkel of Austin and Bobby (Theresa) Merkel of Beebe; two nieces, Jean Smith of Missouri and Jeana (Carl) Chapman of Austin; her great-nephew, Jay (Labray) Merkel of Beebe; and a great-great niece, Rainey Merkel.

She was a strong and amazing woman and will be missed by all who truly knew her. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 901 N. University Ave., Little Rock, AR 72207.

Family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Sixteenth Section Community Center, followed by a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. at Sixteenth Section Cemetery. Arrangements by Smith-Westbrook Funeral Home.
