Gregory Rachels

Gregory Dean Rachels, 68, of Sherwood passed away unexpectedly on November 9, 2018. He was born in Dallas, Texas, on March 17, 1950 to Emma Jane Gregory and Johnny H. Rachels.

In June 1971, Greg enlisted in the United States Air Force and served in Texas, Korea, North Carolina, Germany, California, Arkansas and Turkey. He retired as a Master Sergeant after 23 years of service. Greg then worked for Pulaski County Special School District until his retirement as a Manager in the Nutrition Department.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law, Sandy Rachels. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lois E. Rachels; daughter, Kimberly A. Newton (Don) of Conway, AR; son, John M. Rachels (Trine) of Ft. Worth, TX; three grandchildren, Malachi Jones, Kaleighla Jones and Annalise Rachels; brothers, Kenneth Rachels (Arla) and Randy Rachels both of Grand Prarie, TX; a host of family and friends; along with "all his exes who live in Texas."

Greg was a loving and caring husband and father who was loved by many. He was a man of few words, laid back, and easy going. Greg was an avid fisherman, hunter and tinkerer. In fact, he died with a screwdriver in his back pocket. Greg was a grill master and smoked the best brisket this side of the Mississippi. He will be missed by all and replaced by none. We are better for having known him.
