Gloria Conklin

Gloria Lucille George Conklin died June 13, 2020. She was born March 19th in Fort Worth, Texas to Lucille Medlin Rainwater and Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) George. Gloria’s mother died when she was two years old and she was raised by Myrtle Lucille Berkey who married T.J. in 1927.

Gloria met Joe Verne Conklin in Lubbock, Texas where he trained as a glider pilot for service in World War II. Gloria and Joe married in 1943 and were together for 53 years until his death in 1996. She later married Douglas R. Maltby, who died in 2013.

Gloria loved reading, shopping and collecting jewelry. She enjoyed spending time at Oaklawn Park and Louisiana Downs playing the ponies; she would have been a great handicapper.

Gloria is survived by daughters, Joetta Kastel (Lee) and Cora Fagan; son, Thomas Conklin (Sue) along with two grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother, Royce Jefferson George and his family.

Gloria’s family would like to thank St. Vincent Infirmary for the care of their mother.

There will be a private service for the family at Smith – North Little Rock Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19 restrictions interment will be at the Little Rock National Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to your favorite charity.
