Glenda Sue Jones Strayhorn

Glenda Sue Jones Strayhorn died August 31, 2024 at the age of 86. She was born in Cabot Arkansas to William Woodson Jones and Leola Helen Stephens-Jones. She grew up in the Opal Community near Beebe, Arkansas and graduated from Beebe High School in 1954 and completed an Associate degree at Beebe Junior College (now ASU-Beebe) in 1955.

In her early career she was employed by the insurance industry for ten years until she resigned to devote her attention to her two children and work as a volunteer assisting in their school activities. Later she worked in the savings and loan industry as an administrative assistant, and later joined corporations servicing real estate and car loan accounts. Her hobbies were playing along with teaching piano and oil painting.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Glendal Wayne Strayhorn and her brothers, William Ray Jones and Roy G Jones. She is survived by her son Kevin Dewayne Strayhorn (Karen); daughter Karen Delane Strayhorn Williams (Jim); four grandchildren Halea Suzanne Williams, Winston Lane Williams, Kendal Alan Strayhorn (Emily), Koby Aaron Strayhorn. 

Other survivors are Johnny W. Jones and his wife Patricia of Beebe and sister Carolyn Kirkland of Sherwood and a sister-in-law Dorothy M. Jones Moore. Other family consists of 8 nieces and nephews and a large number of beloved Strayhorn Family along with a host of Stephens and Jones cousins.

Visitation will be held from 6:00PM-8:00PM on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Smith North Little Rock Funeral Home (1921 Main Street). A funeral service will be held at 3:00PM on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at the funeral home with burial following at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
