Glen D. Simmons, age 78, of Kirby, died Tuesday, January 17, 2012. He was born on October 24, 1933, at Daisy, the son of Malachi Simmons and Silla Lavada Golden Simmons. On July 8, 1957, he was married to Helen Ruth Bell. He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Brandy Simmons; and one brother, Gerald Dean Simmons. He was a member of the Daisy Church of Christ; a veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a Private during the Korean War; and a farmer. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and was known as a very kind man, always having a handshake for everyone he met. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and trading, and dearly loved his family. He is survived by wife, Helen Ruth Simmons of Kirby; two sons and daughters-in-law, Monty Glen and Jackie Simmons of Denver, Colorado and Tommy Glen and Donna Simmons of Richland, Missouri; two daughters and one son-in-law, Marsha and Kent Morphew of DeQueen and Dana Simmons of Nashville; ten grandchildren, Clint Cook, Setha Goodwin, Shasta Sharp, Mary O'Neal, Josh Teague, Mona Simmons, Tyler Jackson, Tommy Simmons, Jr., Stacy Simmons and Ashley Simmons; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Pat Logan of Mena, Wanda Simmons of Umpire and Fern and Billy Barentine of Kirby; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, January 19, 2012, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Harold Vaughn officiating. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Mount Joy Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Angel, Harold Bailey, Jeff Snider, Ricky Snider, Monty Simmons and Tommy Simmons. Guest registry is at www.davis-smith.com.
