Gladys Carpenter

Gladys May Carpenter, 83, of Beebe, Arkansas, passed away Monday, September 19, 2011, at the Beebe Retirement Center. She was born February 16, 1928 in Fremont, Indiana to Jay and Dorothy Maugherman. In 1947 she married Bill Carpenter and they resided in Angola, Indiana until 1959 when they moved to Beebe, Arkansas. To this union three wonderful children were born as well as six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. They were her pride and joy. She was a member of the Beebe First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of sixty-four years, Bill; daughter, Cynthia Scales of Beebe; son, Jon Tracy Carpenter (Jody) of Murray, Kentucky; grandchildren, Nathan Scales (Beth), Alice Mairee Page (Jimmy Don) of Cabot, Aaron Scales (Amy) of Lonoke, Kaci Carpenter of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Kaitlyn Carpenter of Murray, Kentucky, Lindley Moore of Little Rock; four precious great-grandchildren, Luke and Ethan Scales, Emma Scales and Abigail Page; sister-in-law, Donna Maugherman of Angola, Indiana; four nieces; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Jay Maugherman; son, Todd Carpenter; and son-in-law, Henry Scales.
Her life was a life of giving to others, whether it was being a Cub Scout leader, feeding football players, sewing clothes for her family and others, baking cinnamon rolls, babysitting for many children, or teaching Sunday school. She was a MaMa to all and she lived a life of example to provide a home where love will live forever.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011, at Beebe First United Methodist Church, with burial in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens.
