Louise “Mama Lou” Ponder went to meet her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 20, 2022. She was 94.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri on February 20, 1928, she was preceded in death by her mother and father, Fred & Louiza Geier, and her beloved husband of thirty-seven years, Nathan Ray Ponder. She was also preceded in death by other family members, whom she missed dearly.
Louise leaves a legacy of love through her children and their spouses; Linda and Phil Smoke, Don and Claudette Ponder and Darlene and Ken Warneke; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Louise was a woman of strong faith who loved and lived for the Lord. This was evident by her servant’s heart and in her daily life. She was a member of Caddo Gap Baptist Church for over fifty years where she led hymns, was the secretary and took care of the books and taught Sunday school for many years.
Louise also worked over fifty years for Horn Lumber Company, where she was the bookkeeper. Louise loved unconditionally and never said a harsh word about anyone. She enjoyed singing, cooking, working in her gardens, playing cards and painting. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, whom she dearly loved. Mama Lou will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her, but she has left countless precious memories for many generations to cherish.
There will be a visitation on Saturday, July 23, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM, prior to the services at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM, Saturday, in the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Reverend Dwayne Holloway officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Polsey, John Cameron, Tracey Gray, Rob Douglas, Billy McV, Fred Kirchoff and Bob Kirchoff.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Arkansas Hospice Foundation (www.arkansashospice.org), Mountain Home Cemetery, c/o Tony Hill, 1017 Old Caddo Gap Road, Bonnerdale, AR 71933, or to the Caddo Gap Baptist Church, 48 6th Street, Caddo Gap, AR 71935).
