Gerald Anton Grummer, 72, passed away on July 25, 2022. He was born in Little Rock, AR on February 7, 1950 to Carl and Florence Grummer. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Grummer.
Gerald is survived by his wife and best friend of 39 years, Andrea Grummer, his five children, Kristen (James) Piraino, Erica (Tony) Calavitta, Jacob (Cory) Grummer, Jordan (Mileah) Grummer, and Conner Grummer (Abi Anderson), his eleven grandchildren: Tyler (Anna), Nick, AJ, Haven (Jake), Ava, Sam, Jack, Rhett, Lane, Riley and Martin, and one great-grandchild, Teddy. He is also survived by his sisters, Angela Rogers, Olga (Jim) Luyet, Catherine Seidl, Marguerite (Larry) Brewer and Theresa Dodson and brothers, Robert (Lou Ann) Grummer and Mark (Sherry) Grummer, sister-in-law Dinah Grummer, many nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
Gerald graduated from Subiaco Academy in 1968, a place he loved dearly. Gerald excelled at basketball, earning all-conference accolades his senior year. He went on to graduate from the University of Central Arkansas with a degree in mathematics. After a stint serving simultaneously as the vice principal, girl’s basketball coach, math teacher, and bus driver of Enola High School, he moved on to a long career with Western Sizzlin where he met his life-long partner and loving wife Andrea. With an unparalleled work ethic, Gerald led by example to so many over the years. He was the first boss for so many people in the community, including his 5 children. He never missed an opportunity to attend his children’s and grandchildren’s events no matter the distance. After retirement in 2017, he cherished his time as Andrea's adventure partner and proud Papa to 11 grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending time playing golf, meeting new people driving Uber, and delivering fried pies for Flywheel Pies.
Everyone who knew Gerald knows how well he loved. Besides his family, there are endless stories of how Gerald joyfully served so many others, which was emblematic of his Catholic faith - an integral part of who he was. He spent countless hours volunteering his time with his church Immaculate Conception and many different Catholic ministries.
He had a laugh that could brighten the darkest of rooms. It made situations better, smiles bigger, and hearts fuller. He loved cooking for his family, all Razorback sports, spending the day at Oaklawn, and a good story. If you walked into his home during the holidays you knew you were walking away with a goodie bag of homemade treats while listening to Willie Nelson Christmas. He was delighted by us, and we all knew it.
